Week 4 CST 300

Part 1: My goal in the CS program is to finish with a 3.8 GPA, and receive an A on my capstone project. I believe that both of these smaller goals will give me the ability to reach a larger end goal of going to graduate school for computer science.

Part 2: My career goal after completing my Computer Science degree is to achieve a salary of $100,000, I feel like this a good number to achieve and will mean all my hard work has paid off.

Part 3: I think I will score in the 90th percentile, the test looks very similar to tests I have taken in the past and contains a large amount of pseudocode questions. I enjoy figuring out pseudocode and finding to solution with the code already provided, the test looks difficult but not so difficult that I couldn't do well.

Part 4: This week was heavily focused on ethics and preparing for our ethics debate paper. I learned about types of claims this week like fact based arguments and definition based arguments. Knowing what kind of argument you are going to create and what statements you will us to support that argument can help your writing be significantly better. I also learned how to identify stakeholders and I feel like understanding the issue from a stakeholder who holds a different opinion from you can only strengthen your argument and how you feel about the issue. Establishing goals was also a huge part of this weeks lessons and I learned the importance of setting attainable goals so you have a way of actually getting them. One of the big things that I took away from my meeting with my team this week was that although we may have different learning styles we have found a way to work well together and as we get into more projects with higher stakes that will help us to be an effective team.

  1. Hey Matthew, I love the goal you have set forth for yourself and for your future. A 3.8 gpa is a very obtainable goal. Being in these team meetings and working with you on these few assignments so far has given me reason to believe you may smash that goal and do even better than what you set out to accomplish. Your career goal is very similar to mine. Financially I want to be in the $100,000+ range, but I also want to position myself to where I can use my resources to help others as well. I look forward to watching you crush the goals you have set for yourself.

  2. Hello Matthew, you have some great aspirations for the future! I see that you want to get a GPA of 3.8 and an A in your capstone project, which already shows how committed you are. You’ve also set yourself a career goal of earning $100,000 yearly. This is such an amazing aim because it reflects all the effort and determination that you put into everything. Just keep going, don’t lose sight of what’s important and I know without a doubt in my mind that you will exceed these expectations. I can’t wait to see what else you do!

  3. Hi Matt,

I hope you had a great long weekend. I wanted to say that I have similar goals to you. Since you have these ambitious goals what are the steps you are planning to achieve this. Although having a good gpa is part of a good candidate profile I can honestly say that it is not the end all be all. This is coming from someone who currently works in a campus recruiting team and has been in the calls where we decide what candidates to pick. Right now their are so many talented candidates that what you know and how your sell this knowledge will matter a lot more in the interview. For example, for this supply chain team we were hiring for they give out test cases. This team only look at people above a 4 out of 5 in the test. Next they looked at how they interreacted with the team, and their actual interview skills. I recommend preparing yourself in other ways especially with tough job market. I am myself will be practicing leet code and data structures to prepare for technical interviews.

    Best,
    A.O
